[Zheltolobaya] wagtail, Motacilla of lutea (S.G. Gmelin, 1774)

Field signs. Male is similar to the male of the [zheltogolovoy] wagtail, in it completely brilliant yellow head and the bottom of body, frequently there are dark blots on the back of the head, the darkness, the cheeks, but, in contrast to the male of [zheltogolovoy] wagtail, spin yellowish-green, there is no black on [zasheyke]. In females also yellowish-green back, the top of the head of the same color, either gray, on the cheek dark mask, the eyebrow is yellow or is white. Female differs from the female of yellow wagtail in terms of yellow eyebrow and from the females of yellow wagtail heads in practice not distinguished by the yellowish-green top of head, but female with the gray top and the white eyebrow, determination is not developed. From the females of [zheltogolovoy] and mountain wagtails it differs in terms of completely yellowish-green back. Adult in the autumnal detail and young are very similar to the yellow wagtails, distinguishing features are not revealed. Weight and sizes - as in yellow wagtail. Are encountered the hybrids of yellow and [zheltoloboy] wagtails ([Ryabitsev], 2001). Propagation. Deserts, steppe, wooded plain and the south of forest zone from the Volga to East Kazakhstan. In the Cis-Ural it is extended from the extreme south to [podtaygi], in the South Cis-Ural in many places it is usual. In the Trans-Ural it is sufficiently rare. The boundaries of area are very obscure ([Ryabitsev], 2001). |
