Field signs. White bird with size heron. The beak wide and flat, dark-brown with the yellowish end, is enlarged at the end in the form of blade. Feet are black. In adult - yellowish crest, which overhangs to the back (in female it shorter). The young do not have crest, the beak of lead color, single-tone. In flight Colpitts first rapidly waves by wings, then it holds them motionlessly; feet are elongated back, neck is slightly bent downward. It can steam. It is taciturn. Is not especially careful ([Syroechkovskiy], [Rogacheva], 1980; 1995).
[A].[YA]. Of [tugarinov] (1916) found to Colpitts on the shore [Ubsu]-[Nura], where the pair of these birds constantly arrived flying to feed to the swampy shore of lake. On the assembled information, this bird was encountered on [Khemchike] near the mouth r. Of [chadan]. Female was obtained BY [A].[P]. [Ermolaevym] 9.07.1918 g. on r. Of [uyuk] ([Kozhanchikov], Gerasim -[Morachinskiy], 1923). Later [A].[I]. Of [yanushevich] (1952) obtained from the hunter of paw, the beak, wings Colpitts, obtained on r. Of [chadan], the same hunter reported encounter in the same year (18.07.1947 g.) of three additional pairs (Baranov, 1991). In the recent decades of Colpitts it was not encountered in the central Tuva basin (Baranov, 1991). South of [Tannu]- ol ridge this form was found in the small salt lake in the environments s. Bey- Dag. Was here obtained by 21.07.1957 g. young of Colpitts ([Spasskiy], Sonin, 1959). The same authors at the end of July observed to Colpitts in the average flow r. Naryn- goal the boards -[Khemskogo] of region. In July 1958. at Lake. Thor- tend The [erzinskogo] region they repeatedly noted Colpitts by pairs and single birds (flint, 1962). [A].[P]. Savchenko and [V].[I]. Of [emelyanov] (1984), which performed ornithological work on Lake. Thor- tend from August 28 to September 25, 1980 ; they note that Colpitts on Thor -[Khole] it is encountered rarely. In the time of observations only one bird flew on August 30 to the southwest. Somewhat later (10.05.1982 g.) was obtained adult bird, and on May 18 - young of last year (collection of Krasnoyarsk State University) (Baranov, 1991). Three birds are noted by the spring of 1982 g. at Lake. Thor- tend, the pair of birds two single are encountered on April 25 and June 8, 1980. at Lake. [Ubsu]-[Nur] (Savchenko and other, 1986). In June 1980. during a prolonged stay at Lake. [Ubsu]-[Nur] repeatedly were observed pair Colpitts and single birds, that are fed on the shallow with the silted shores lakes and in the small lagoon pools, which was overgrown with reed (Baranov, 1991). Available data make it possible to assume nesting Colpitts at Lake. [Ubsu]-[Nur] and in the separate years at Lake. Thor- tend The [erzinskogo] region, other encounters are the trophic displacements of form, and the nature of a stay Colpitts in these places remains unexplained (Baranov, 1991). Places of inhabiting. Large steppe reservoirs with the shoals and the continuous brushwood of reed, reed and willows, the floods of rivers, rarely attended by man. There are no such reservoirs, not implicated in the intensive economic mastery, in the south of edge practically, and nesting on them Colpitts is, apparently, impossible without the special protection ([Syroechkovskiy], [Rogacheva], 1995). Multiplication. It nests colonially: are formed independent colonies or - more frequent - it is joined to the colonies of other birds, usually herons. Nests on the creases of last year's reed, are thinner frequent on the trees in the flooded osier beds, at the height to 5 m. the nests in the colony are sometimes arranged very near one to another, so that on one large heap of stems and leaves of reed they can hatch on 2-3 birds. Laying - 3-4, it is rare 5 eggs, white with the small reddish spots at the dull end ([Syroechkovskiy], [Rogacheva], 1995). Nourishment. Larvas of aqueous insects, mollusks, small frogs, small fish. Is characteristic behavior Colpitts during the feeding: birds are built by skew line and resembling the motions of choppers slowly move against the current, after lowering the beak into the water and producing with it wide motions from the side to the side. In the standing water the birds feed separately and system does not observe ([Syroechkovskiy], [Rogacheva], 1995). Number. Number in the edge is zero. If Colpitts it was rare at the end past century, then all the more it is small chances to meet it now, although its flying iies from [Tuvy] or from Zaysan were possible ([Syroechkovskiy], [Rogacheva], 1995). In 1989. at Lake. Thor- tend it was taken into account: 4.05 - 8 Colpitts, 1.06 - single bird, 3.06 - pair Colpitts. Total number Colpitts in [Tuve] comprises not more than 20-25 individuals (Lake. Thor- tend [Ubsu]-[Nur] - territory RF) (Baranov, 1991). |
Propagation. Predominantly southern- Asian form. In the steppe part of the edge rarely it was encountered in 2nd half XIX v. [P].[P]. Of [sushkin] (1938) it considered that it nests in the mouth r. Abakan, although not each year: in June 1878. was here obtained adult bird, and in August - young, recently left nest; in June 1892. to Colpitts they met in the lower reaches of the river r. of tube. The nearest contemporary nesting places Colpitts are situated in [Tuve].[Back] |
